  2. Apps for Sale: New Channels and More Stores

App lovers have more choices than ever when it comes to finding and downloading content, but players across the value chain want to maintain a direct relationship with customers. Although Web browsers appear to provide an attractive alternative, few consumers use this route to find apps. The big changes in distribution will be the emergence of Facebook and modifications to the stores themselves.

  4. 2012 Mobility Predictions: A Year of Living Dangerously

The world is in transition and in the year ahead, mobile will be both the protagonist and the subject of this instability. 8. A Smart Buy for Smartphones: Google Buys Motorola Mobility

Acquiring Motorola for $12.5 billion will make Google's Android platform even more successful by giving Google a 17,000-patent war chest for patent battles, a standardized end-to-end mobile experience for Android users and a Google-controlled platform for mobile payments. However, Google's biggest challenge will be managing Android as an open platform while making devices for that platform--a feat no other technology company has previously achieved.

  10. Two Hurdles for Video Ads

  13. Telefonica Gets with the Developers

Grass roots is an expression Telefonica uses a lot to describe BlueVia. That is an apt term for the operator s developer platform, which launched at the end of last year.
