Connected Devices

Connected Devices let users interact and communicate. The latest smartphones, laptops, tablets, e-readers, set-top boxes, gaming consoles and more put new experiences into users' hands, enabling them to frame their Connected Experiences in innovative ways. With their sleek form factors and innovative interfaces, Connected Devices draw in new users--from grandmothers to kindergarteners.
Consider the smartphone. Globally, smartphones comprise only 17 percent of the mobile phone market, or about 750 million phones. But because smartphones create such a compelling Connected Experience, allowing people to answer e-mails, check schedules and stay in touch with their social networks, Yankee Group sees smartphones growing to 1.4 billion globally by 2014.
At an average smartphone handset price of $350, that's $227 billion in smartphone device sales over the next three years. And that's just one small segment of the Connected Devices marketplace, which Yankee Group sees creating the largest single revenue opportunity within the Connected Experience ecosystem.
